FAQ Here are some Frequently Asked Questions from our customers.
1      When should a pump be serviced?
We recommend carrying out preventive maintenance at between 800 and 1000 operating hours.
You can choose to:

a. Do this yourself: you can then order the maintenance and repair kits from us.

b. Have this work done by us by entering into a maintenance contract or by telephoning us after 800 operating hours to arrange a service. In this way you can be sure that your pump continues to operate perfectly.

2      What are the minimal service tasks that have to be carried out?
It is recommended that the oil be changed every 200 operating hours (0.5 l.); 5 litres of oil are supplied when an installation is purchased. Thereafter, the valves, O-rings, bushes and - by way of preventive maintenance - the pressure regulator and safety valve have to be replaced every 800 operating hours.
3      What is the maximum permissible pH value of the water?
We advise that the pH value of the water be between 5.7 and 6.3 (that is approx. 6). This value ensures that the calcium remains in solution and will be less likely to cause blockages.

4      How can the pH value of the water be reduced?
It is possible to reduce the pH value of the water using a pH-regulating unit. Please contact us for further advice.

5      Why does RELDAIR work using a pressure of 120 BAR?
Achieving a certain relative humidity or temperature does not just mean using as much water as possible, but depends rather on the quality and therefore the effectiveness of the spray. As the literature on the subject shows, one can only talk of fog if water is atomised under a (mechanical) pressure of at least 120 Bar. The RELDAIR Fog System fulfils this requirement. The high pressure and the special construction of the nozzle results in an optimal atomisation, producing an extremely fine fog which does not descend onto the plants but evaporates before it has a chance to touch them.

The droplet size of just 10 microns means that this evaporation induces an increase in the relative humidity and also has a very considerable cooling effect.

6      How often should the filters be replaced?
That depends on the quality of the water: the cleaner the water, the longer the filters can be used.

7      Does RELDAIR use compressed air?
No, the water is atomised under high pressure using a plunger pump.

8      What measures can be taken against waterborne diseases?
  Measures taken by RELDAIR:
All parts that leave our factory are free of disease;
All systems are supplied with the cleaning agent Virkon. Existing customers can get a package for free.
All breaktanks come with a maintenance sticker. Customers who don't have a sticker yet can get one for free.
All RELDAIR steering controls incorporate a 24 hour switching device which ensures that the system operates for a minimum of 1 minute every 24 hours thus moving the water.
Pipework, filters and breaktank are non-light transparent which helps prevent the growth of algae;
Every system comes with end stops that can be removed in order to flush the pipes;

Measures that should be taken by the customer:
Good maintenance. In other words: all the measures one takes to let the system function well also help prevent waterborne diseases. See our manual and the sticker on the breaktank;
Add 10-ml. chloride to the break tank every 2 months.

Optional measures
Thermostat to detect hot water.*
A new measure is the installation of a flushing valve in order to flush the breaktank every day. Existing customers who are interested in this valve are advised to consult RELDAIR or their installer.*

* For a system without a breaktank the 2 aforementioned
   measures are superfluous.
